Documentary theatre at Deutsches Schifffahrtsmuseum (DSM) Bremerhaven

As part of the special exhibition »Gaining Land – The German Atlantic Expedition from 1925 to 1927«, opening on 26th June 2025 in the Bangert Building, the play METEOR will be performed in the entrance hall of the currently closed Scharoun Building of the DSM.
The DSM and the theatre ensemble once staged this highly acclaimed theatre performance in the context of the Science Year 2016/17. Several freight cars were equipped with exhibits from the museum and travelled through the Federal Republic as a railway theatre.
With the revival of the play, the construction site of the Scharoun Building will be open to the public for the first time after years of closure.

The performance METEOR provides a fascinating insight into the history, conditions and necessity of marine research. Today, the third research vessel, Meteor III, sails the oceans and explores the maritime habitat and its influence on our climate.
Author and director Jens-Erwin Siemssen spent four weeks on board the research vessel, accompanying scientists as they conducted their research off the coast of South Africa. The performance METEOR, which draws on the original diaries from the first South Atlantic expedition and interviews with marine researchers, builds a bridge between the historic expedition and modern marine research.
