Three-part production as part of the »Nasses Land« project
Haus K (Karlsburg)
At the end of the 17th century, the Swedish king wanted to build a fortress at the mouth of the river Geeste. However, Karlsburg was never completed. Later, the Emigrant House was built here to provide travellers on their way overseas with decent accommodation.
This building is still used by Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences today. A vivid illumination builds a bridge between the historic site of Karlsburg Castle and the modern place of study, bringing local history to life.
The project is being developed in collaboration with Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences to mark the institution's fiftieth anniversary.
Geeste
The landscape is shaped by water: the river Geeste meanders from its mouth inland and has been used as a transport route since the first settlements were established. Numerous structures along the river now regulate water levels for shipping and the water balance in the lowlands.
Along a light trail two pumping stations and a canal sluice are illuminated and brought to life by actors. On the tour, spectators learn about the exciting history of these maritime structures.
Hadelner Kanal
The landscape in Sietland is barely above sea level. It is only since the construction of the Hadelner Canal that rainwater can be pumped out via pumping stations to prevent devastating flooding. Smaller ships also no longer have to take the risky route across the Wadden Sea, but can travel on the safe waterway from the Elbe to the Weser instead.
Along a light trail two pumping stations and the sluice on the Hadelnder Canal are illuminated and brought to life by actors. On the round trip, spectators discover the fascinating history of these maritime structures.
The cultural project »Nasses Land« is part of the funding programme »Aller.Land – shaping together. Strengthening structures«.
